Ski Injury Round Table

On May 13th the Ski Injury Round Table was resurrected at GMVS in Waitsfield! We brought together a group of 43 doctors, ski coaches, athletic trainers and physical therapists - so many that we could not all fit around a "Round Table"! We talked about what we KNOW about ski injuries, how to screen for injury risk factors, how to track injuries in future, concussion management, demands analysis of skiing, quadriceps inhibition and how to return injured athletes to skiing. It was great to see how much knowledge there is available to help skiers in VT perform and stay physically healthy. The plan now if for groups to form to work on various projects including:

- Designing a scientifically based Return to Ski test

- Tracking ski racing injuries in VT

- Examining risk factors for injury in skiers

Of these projects the one that will be most expensive is examining risk factors for injury in skiers. This will amongst other things require MRI testing. If you or someone you know might be willing to fund this project please let me know and I will put you in touch with the researchers.

With the knowledge and passion that we have for skiing in VT, I think we have a great opportunity to make a real impact on keeping skiers healthy!
